Professional visual artist and college professor of art & design foundation, residing in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Born in Tunisia in 1965 to a family of artists and a sunny Mediterranean climate. Since a young age Chouaieb demonstrated a mediocrity in playing soccer but an extraordinary talent in drawing and a great interest in art. He completed a master’s degree in science et techniques of arts with a major in graphic design and visual communication from ITAAUT ( Institut technologique d’Art, Architecture et Urbanism de Tunis, Tunisia), worked for a short period as Art Director in the publicity department of BELDI, Tunisia’s largest dairy product company. Moved to France to study Clothing Design and Fabrication at AFPA in Cherbourg , Normandy, France, after that he moved to Paris where he attended the renowned Sorbonne University to complete a Madter’s degree of Applied Arts consisting of a theory & practice project of remodeling Tunisia’s national traditional costume, then continued a doctoral degree of research in visual arts. While studying at the Sorbonne University Chouaieb worked for a decade as a professional artist in Montmartre, this world renowned Parisien art district once home to some of the world most famous artists including Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali, Van Gogh, Toulouse Lautrec and many others. In Montmartre Mr. Saidi quickly gained recognition as “one of Paris’s most distinguished portrait-artists. In 1999 he moved to Atlanta GA USA where he continues to paint, to promote art and to teach art enthusiasts. Mr. Saidi taught painting and drawing at Callanwolde Fine art center for 5 years. He also taugh 2D design and fashion portfolio design at CAU ( Clark Atlanta University) and taught art & design foundation at the Art Institute of Atlanta for 6 years. Classes he teaches include Observational drawing, Figure drawing and painting, Portraiture drawing & painting, 2D & 3D design, Fashion Illustration . He also teaches private classes of drawing and painting. Facilitates plein air painting workshops. Saidi is renowned for his fascinating demonstrations of portraiture drawing and painting from live- models. He was chosen to paint from live-sitting the portrait of Miss America-2008. Some of his signature pieces include “Universal Godfather of Soul”, a major awards winner portrait of legendary singer James Brown. NBC News described it as “The most valuable painting of James Brown”. The portrait was displayed next to deceased J. Brown gasket during the singer’s funeral ceremony in January of 2007 and broadcasted worldwide. The portrait is currently in the permanent collection of Lucy Laney Museem, Augusta Ga. USA. Also “Monochrome Nina Simone” a large monochromatic portrait of Jazz singer Nina Simone. Then, “Abraham Lincoln, man of one face”, a distinguished portrait of Lincoln part of “Portraying A.Lincoln” national exhibition celebrating Lincoln becentenary, toured the USA for 2 two years (2008-2010). Saidi’s artwork has been featured on several tv channels including CNN, NBC News and FOX 5, as well as El-Jazerra tv, Tunisia National TV station. “I enjoy art and I do it with a great deal of love” says Chouaieb Saidi.
