Susan L. Sistrunk was born at Travis Air Force Base in Solano County California, the daughter of William and Barbara Sistrunk. Her early life was spent in California until the age of fifteen when her family moved to Central Texas. From an early age, Susan showed an interest in art, receiving her first set of oil pastels at the age of six. Remaining a favorite medium to this day, the gift of pastels propelled her on the path of a visual artist. Though she loved creating art and illustrations, Susan would remain self-taught, and turn her academic focus on music. Upon entering Temple College at the age of eighteen, Susan would return to the visual arts and discover a love of Art History. As a result, throughout her art career, monoliths and megalithic structures would feature greatly in her works, through a variety of media. Susan entered the Fine Arts Program at University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. With an emphasis on Studio Art and a new found passion for Art History, her academic experience had peaked an interest to teach the artist’s’ process. Upon graduating University, Susan began teaching art at the Methodist Children’s Home in Waco, Texas. She would remain to teach there until 2015 when she began teaching art at J.H. Hines Elementary in East Waco. While continuing to teach art today, Susan shows her art in galleries around the South and in online exhibitions Nationally. Susan is a member of the Central Texas Art League, and a co-founder of The Wandering Artisans, a collective of spirited artists in the South-West Region. Susan has a prolific body of work and continues to produce new pieces, selling to private collectors and making available prints of her works for purchase through her website. Susan may also be reached to commission bespoke works of art.
