Chicago born native, Shaz Hunter is a self-taught artist who has a passion for fine art, theater and dramatic architecture. She received her bachelor’s in Interior Architecture from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She placed first in the International Hostel Martin Luther King Project, 2007. She has received a Certification of Recognition in Art Excellence by the South Inter-Conference Association, 2003, and appointed into the Indiana Art Association, 2001-2003. After studying Art & Architecture in Italy, Shaz worked as a high end residential interior architect and an assistant art instruction in after school programs. Specializing in painting and drawing, Shaz has exhibited her work at several galleries and exhibitions throughout Chicago from 2003-2010 while also teaching art at Heritage Middle School. Exhibits include Shaping Young Minds Television, 2009: a solo exhibition "Ambiguous Perspectives" at UIC African American Cultural Center. Her last performance as a thespian was as Loretta Robinson in the theatrical play "Back in the Day" at Dusable Museum, 2010. Shaz went on to pursuit her MFA in Production Design from the American Film Institute, 2012. As a current member of the Art Directors Guild Local 800, she works in the film and television industry. Projects include DJANGO UNCHAINED, REAL HUSBANDS OF HOLLYWOOD, BROOKLYN NINE-NINE, LET’S MAKE A DEAL and TV ONE original feature WHITE WATER. Today, Shaz is focusing on a new painting series and teaching art in her community.
