ARTISTIC PROFILE – In Brief Sharon Lee Minor (a.k.a. Sharon Minor King, Ph.D.) synthesizes art and anthropology in her visual and performance artwork. She has been widely exhibited throughout the U.S., Canada, and Ghana, West Africa. Local exhibitions include the “Ordinary Woman” exhibit (Howard County Cultural Arts Center), and the “Art ‘n” Soul” exhibit (National Center for Children and Families). Sharon received a GRUMBACHER medallion for her painting featured in the exhibit sponsored by the Dayton Society of Painters & Sculptors. Sharon continues to expand her artistic skills by creating original jewelry pieces, wearable art clothing, and exploring the creative process of making digital music that synthesizes her love for the spoken word. She is a graduate of George Washington University (Corcoran School of Art) in Painting (B.A.); Wright State University in Textiles (M.Ed); Howard University in Biblical Studies with an emphasis on the Arts (M.Div.); and The Ohio State University in Art & Anthropology (Ph.D.). Currently, she is focusing on her continued growth and development as a painter, jewelry maker, and author/illustrator. She loves the challenges of mixing media, but, also upholds a deep respect for traditional methods used by European, Asian, and African artists. Sharon believes in “giving back”, by teaching adults to rekindle their inner creative voices via the visual arts. Locally, she teaches painting, and jewelry-making, workshops for Michael’s Arts & Crafts, Inc. in Laurel, and Aspen Hill, MD. She also teaches inter-generational six-week courses at Leisure World, in Silver Spring, MD. One of her favorite songs by India Irie is, “Beautiful People”!
