I grew up in Southern California and I started drawing before I went to kindergarten. Through my school years I did a lot of doodling and did not really take art too seriously until the last year of High school. I studied ceramics and art history and graduated in 1974 with a BA in applied art. I spent many years teaching and living in Southeast Asia. In 1996 my family returned to the United States and with that a change from teacher to student. In 1998 I painted my first painting and knew that I would continue painting. I started taking classes at the Academy of Art in San Francisco and completed a MFA in 2002. Since graduating I worked for 10 years in art conservation in Sacramento at Northern California Art Conservators. In January of 2015 I moved to Paso Robles. I chose the Academy of Art because of it emphasis on classical training, while I paint mostly in a realistic style, I occasionally paint somewhat abstractly. I wanted a broad base in my training so that I might not be limited in my artist endeavors. Painting is like breathing. I have to paint the same as I need to breath. For some it is the smell of the paint or the materials they use, for me it is the feel of the brush/palette knife pushing paint onto the canvas. It is creating not just representational image but creating an environment or a mood. My classical training has also helped me as an Art Conservator. I was lab trained at Northern California Art Conservators in Sacramento, where I worked for 10 years. While there I worked on many paintings that was owned by the state of California, City and County of Sacramento, and other local institutions.
