J Elam was born in Texas City, TX. In J's mid-teens J fell in love with graphite. J began to pursue the dream of becoming an artist. With no formal art education, J began the quest in abstract art. J has worked in abstract, surrealism, and realism including portraits. J is as well known for accepting commissions. J is primarily a graphite artist but occasionally works with mixed media. J believes the only thing required to be an artist is pasion, everything else can be learned. J became a Grumbacher Certified Art Instructor in September of 2017 and has since been teaching in the Pasadena and Baytown Texas area.
