Warner Bros. Wants More Batman In Batman V Superman [Rumor]

Batman has been one of the most popular DC Comics characters for a long time. But Chris Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy sent the character to the stratosphere, which is ironic, since that's where you could usually find Superman.

Now a new rumor from Heroic Hollywood says that the character's popularity, combined with Ben Affleck's performance in the upcoming Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, has led to the WB requesting Superman's part being reduced to make way for more Batman. Apparently, Affleck is so good that he "is blowing Henry Cavill's Superman right off the screen."

Ouch.

On one hand, I've always thought Affleck has been given a bad rep when it comes to his performances. He doesn't have the best range, but what he can do he does well. On the other hand, while I'm not the biggest fan of Man of Steel, I did like Cavill as Superman.

As always, I'm taking this with a giant grain of salt. However, if it's true, then I'm not sure if this is a reflection of Cavill's performance, or if it's just Warner Bros. being cautious.

Batman has already given WB a huge trilogy, and is an easier character to market. Affleck is a bigger name than Cavill, and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. didn't exactly ignite the box office.

Plus the entire roster of characters that make up Suicide Squad comes from Batman, and Affleck himself makes an appearance in that film. I don't know if that was studio mandated, or whether David Ayer wanted to put Affleck in the film because he had access to him, but the effect is the same, Batman is all over both films in 2016.

Again, assuming this rumor is true, I have to wonder if WB is in love with Affleck's performance, or it's being cautious and going with a sure-thing. Take into account that Warner's entire DC Cinematic Universe hinges on the success of both this film and Suicide Squad.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will premiere in theaters March 25, 2016.
