Fixer-Upper or Money Pit? Finding a House Worth Saving

In Dwell's June Furniture issue, we visit the Los Angeles home of "Glee" star Jayma Mays and actor Adam Jones. The 1920s Spanish Colonial received decades worth of incongruous additions and gradually fell into disrepair but architect Mike Jacobs revived the structure in a nearly two-year-long renovation. "One of the things we asked Mike was, 'Can you try and make this house less schizophrenic and give it an identity?' " says Jones. In this discussion, the New York- and Los Angeles-based architect will detail how he tailored the structure to match the residents' style of living-casual, open, comfortable, and with plenty of roof decks.
