5 Ways To Take Good Care Of Your Oil Paintings On Canvas

by Peter H Pham

For many people today, there is nothing quite like being able to have fine art that they can own and appreciate for all of the beauty it brings into their lives. If you are looking to own art yourself then you already realize that this is going to mean you must take the best care of it that you can because you want your oil paintings on canvas to last as long as they can for you and your descendants.

The good news is that it is relatively simple and logical to take good care of your paintings and make sure that they do not end up getting ruined. Firstly, you want to make sure that you handle your paintings as infrequently as possible because fingers contain damaging oils which can interact with the paint and change its color so use gloves if you must touch the surface.

Another important thing you want to remember is that humidity and temperature will also cause damage if they are not carefully monitored so 65 degrees or close to that is the best idea for your art to stay looking fabulous. Be sure, also, that you keep in mind the fact that harsh lighting, such as sunlight, can cause damage you will not want to see so try to use soft track lighting whenever possible.

People also say that amateurs should never clean paintings, even if they are dusty, because pros are the only ones properly trained to do this well. When in a situation where you do not have the option of hiring pros, simply use a very soft brush because this could preserve the surface to some degree which might help.

A final way you can take care of your painting collection is to make absolutely certain that you keep them on the wall as much as possible. Holes, scratches and other damages to he surface of a painting almost always happen during unnecessary handling. Keep your paintings hung up where all can enjoy them and this will not be a problem for you at all.

If you follow these tips, it will be very easy for you to have a collection that really looks fabulous. Oils are a great way to decorate and, as you can see, they do not take a lot of work to care for properly. This is what has made them the prime medium for artists for centuries when having a truly amazing work of art is what people really valued being able to do. Your paintings are much better when you can understand just how to take care of them properly for generations.
