Stan Lee Confirms Black Panther Movie IS in Development

By Mark Hodge (doddleNEWS)

The godfather of Marvel Comics Stan Lee has revealed that a Black Panther standalone movie WILL happen soon.

This confirms recent rumors that the character, who was one of the world’s first black superhero, is about to hit the big screen. And iconic writer Lee has insisted that the African hero is near the front of development queue.

He said (via Comic Book Resources): “Eventually, all the superheroes are going to have their own movies. They are already working on Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, and the Black Panther and there are others I am not allowed to talk about."

Of course, Marvel Studios has already ‘gone public’ with the Ant-Man (currently in production) and Doctor Strange (currently in pre-production) movies, so it’s interesting that Lee would place Black Panther in that bracket.

Indeed, it would suggest that the Disney-owned company plan on making the project sooner, rather than later, as hinted recently by Marvel Studios exec Kevin Feige.

The character, who hails from the fictional African nation of Wakanada, was first introduced in 1966 as part of a Fantastic Four comic.

Speculation surrounding a potential BP standalone was further fuelled by Joss Whedon’s decision to film part of Avengers: Age of Ultron in South Africa.

Stay tuned for more Black Panther and Marvel Cinematic Universe news.
