New Guardians of the Galaxy UK Trailer Arrives with Loads of New Footage

By Danny F. Santos (doddleNEWS)

I really thought we wouldn’t get anymore new footage from Guardians of the Galaxy. Other than perhaps a few new shots in a couple of 30-second TV spots, I figured what we’ve seen is pretty much everything we would see for the film until it got released.

Boy was I wrong!

Marvel has released a brand new full length Guardians of the Galaxy trailer for the UK audience, and it’s a doozy! It’s packed with action and character interaction and nary an ooga-chaka to be heard. We do get to hear quite a bit of Bradley Cooper as Rocket and Vin Diesel’s Groot saying the only thing the character can say, “I am Groot.” Check out the trailer below!

SPOILERS TO FOLLOW!

What’s New?

I think the very first shot is Drax’s home being destroyed. He’s been on a rampage across the galaxy trying to find the person responsible for the death of his wife and child. I won’t go into who that is, but it will put him in conflict with another character on the Guardians of the Galaxy team.

The other piece we finally get to see is how Peter Quill gets to space. It’s been rumored that Quill is taken from earth as a child, and has been traveling the galaxy ever since. There are a few shots of child Quill running through school hallways, and being illuminated in a park by the ship he eventually pilots throughout the rest of the film.

While most of the runtime for the trailer plays it straight, the final 30 seconds show how volatile the team really is, when Rocket belittles the fact that Quill has a plan — or at least a part of a plan. That’s not to mention the bomb Rocket is building…

These character reactions remind me of what made Star Wars so much fun to watch. Their plans really don’t go their way, and the characters don’t get along all that well. The TV show Firefly had the same character interaction so we should be getting comedic moments from how they can barely stand eachother amidst the fact that the fate of everyone in the galaxy are in their hands.

Which also sounds like Star Wars. And since Episode VII is a year-and-a-half away, this movie should tide you over until then, while introducing more elements for what everyone suspects will be Marvel’s The Avengers 3. It’s been a while since we got a lighthearted space opera romp on the big screen, and I hope this opens the floodgates for a lot more movies like it.

Guardians of the Galaxy blasts into theaters August 1, 2014.
