Is Jason Momoa Aquaman In Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice

Aquaman is probably the punchline of many superhero jokes because… well, he talks to fish… but most people don’t realize he can hold his own against Superman — he’s actually pretty powerful. Now we get word that Jason Momoa, known for his role as Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones, has been cast as Aquaman.

Hitflix?originally reported his casting.?It’s not exactly the role you’d expect him to be cast in, and it’s not the first time we’ve heard his name connected to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. At Bucharest Comic-Con he even denied it saying (via IBTimes.com):

I couldn’t even be more random for Aquaman, you know, with the blonde hair,” Momoa said. “I don’t even know where that comes from. It’s like me being Robin or something. Who pulls that out? I see that on the Internet and I’m like, ‘Aquaman’ A guy like Lobo I could see.

He’s not wrong, I didn’t believe it for the same reasons so it was a good cover until Warner Bros. officially makes a statement — which they haven’t yet. Grain of salt is still in effect here, people.

Where Does He Figure Into The Movie?

According to Hitflix’s sources, after the Indian ocean was pummelled by Zod’s World Engine in Man of Steel, Aquaman emerges none to pleased by the outcome. We don’t know when this happens in Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice but apparently it’s a small appearance to set him up for the Justice League film.

The character designs are also completed for the film and I wonder what they’re going to go with. The classic design of a gold fish-scale top with green pants will probably not work on screen but he’s had many different costume designs in the comics and other media. With Mamoa cast, I’m going to guess they’re going with one of the more rugged designs.

That Damn Title

Rumors still abound that we’ll get a Flash and Green Lantern cameo in Batman v Superman, and with Aquaman all but confirmed, along with Wonder Woman and Cyborg, I don’t see why not. The more we hear about this film, the more troubling it becomes.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m gung-ho on a movie where Superman and Batman go head to head, but it feels like this movie is just the commercial for the Justice League movie everyone has been waiting years for. The reason the Marvel movies work so well is that each movie is it’s own film that take place in the same universe. Each story might have a bit to do with the overall arc of the universe but they’ve never been this heavy handed about it. Guardians of the Galaxy is not called Guardians of the Galaxy: One More Infinity Stone For Thanos.

The other troubling thing is the title itself implies that Warner Bros. doesn’t know what they want this movie to fundamentally be. Is it a Batman vs. Superman movie or a dawn of the Justice League movie? Sure it’s possible that having Supes and the dark knight go at it leads organically into the Justice League, in a fun and interesting way, I just wish they weren’t so ham fisted about the whole thing.

And it’s also a terrible title.
