Jennifer Lawrence Set To Mop Up Oscar Competition With Film ‘Joy’

By Mark Hodge (doddleNEWS)

Jennifer Lawrence is set to play the inventor of the Miracle Mop in David O. Russell’s next project, titled Joy.

The Oscar-winning actress and The Fighter director have previously collaborated on Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, with Lawrence bagging an Academy Award for the former.

Fox has confirmed that the project will be released on Christmas Day 2015, meaning it will be vying for awards’ attention.

And why not? Much like contemporary Alexander Payne, the Academy seems to recognize David O. Russell no matter what he directs. Indeed, despite not having received an Oscar himself, the filmmaker’s last three movies have garnered a staggering 25 Oscar nominations, 3 wins (all in acting categories), including 5 nominations for the director.

Joy Mangano

While the story of American mother and entrepreneur Joy Mangano may seem like an unconventional choice for an awards’ contender, Russell has built a career on quirky and non-conformist subject matter.

The script, which was penned by Bridesmaids co-writer Annie Mumolo, centers on the mother of three who invented the hugely successful Miracle Mop, and eventually sold her company to the Home Shopping Network (HSN), where she now works as a presenter.

December 2015 is shaping up to be a busy month, and Russell and Lawrence will face stiff competition in the shape of Mission: Impossible 5, Kung Fu Panda 3, and Star Wars: Episode VII.

Stay tuned for more Joy developments, including further casting news.
