Women have no freedom whatsoever in the Middle East. Even though some countries may politically grant universal enfranchisement, women are still not free from the chains of society which restrain them within social conformity in which women are not free to work, to make their own choices. This painting is supposed to represent these limitations to women's freedoms. The chains represent the society which makes women conform to the centuries-old traditions.
