4 Ways To Create the Best Sleep Environment

As you age it can get harder and harder to fall asleep every night and stay asleep soundly. Just because your body isn't as good at sleeping doesn't mean that you still don't desperately need quality sleep. You may not need as much of it, but you should still try your best to get adequate rest every night. Poor sleep can lead to multiple health problems, so working hard to create the best sleep environment to facilitate a good night's rest is your best bet to having great sleep patterns.

  1. Use the Right Lights

It really matters what lights you are exposed to during the day and just before bed. You might not know what color light helps you sleep, but thankfully there are companies that specialize in these lights that set you up well for a good sleep. Red light is critical for sleep regulation, and it also has other benefits you can learn more about.

Blue light is the type of light you need to avoid as much as possible. You are bombarded with blue light daily through various screens and technology. Blue light-blocking glasses can help, but it is better to make sure you are getting enough red light throughout the day. If you can't get outside for enough time each day, investing in a special lamp can help make sure you are getting an adequate amount of red light.

  1. Take Your Bed to the Next Level

As people age their bodies may need more varied sleep positions than they did in their youth. People are more liable to have different joint ailments and conditions like sleep apnea that can make it difficult to stay comfortable through the night. If you find you are often awakened because of being uncomfortable, it may be time to consider investing in a new bed and bed frame. Adding an adjustable bed frame to your bed can help you alleviate some of the pressure points in your body and can help minimize snoring. It's an investment that will greatly enhance your sleep.

  1. Choose Relaxing Audio

Another common problem that can wake people up at night is variations in sounds. Whether it is an active neighborhood owl or traffic patterns outside your window, many people are woken up by noises around them. Being woken up can be really difficult for some people because it is a challenge to fall back asleep. Getting a really good sound machine can help prevent odd noises from waking you up. If your partner doesn't like to have ambient noise there are also small in-ear devices that you can comfortably wear to have consistent sounds through the night.

  1. Regulate Your Temperature

The temperature of your room is also very important to get a good night's rest. Studies have shown that the optimal temperature should be around 65 degrees Fahrenheit. If your room runs warm, getting an extra portable air conditioner or fan can help get the temperature lower. And if you find it's hard to get your bedroom that warm you can always invest in heated mattress pads or blankets to help bump up the temperature for you while you sleep.

There are even devices to create two different temperature zones in a shared bed. If you and your partner don't have the same body temperature needs while you sleep, someone might always be hot while the other is always cold. They make dual zoned bed jets now to help hot sleepers stay cool while cold sleepers can stay warm. There are so many great options to make sure your room stays as comfortable as possible all night long.

The best way to ensure a wonderful night's rest is to create the most conducive environment for sleep. Staying away from the wrong lights and getting enough red light, investing in your bed, providing the most soothing sounds, and maintaining the optimal sleep temperature will all aid in making falling asleep easier and staying asleep effortless. Your rest is essential for your overall health, so try these tips to get better sleep.
