Try Red Light Therapy

Red light therapy is a new form of treatment for many ailments and conditions. Previously only available in a medical office, red light therapy is now available at home.

How It Works

Before humans spent most of their time inside, the sun provided a source of healing energy, both mental and physical. Now, most people work inside. Those who don't, coat themselves with sunscreen to avoid the sun's UV rays. Unfortunately, this also prevents the beneficial red light rays from reaching and healing the body.

Red light therapy has a direct effect on the body's cells. The mitochondria found in every cell soak up red light and use it to make energy. This allows cells to become healthier and even repair themselves. Every cell including muscle, skin and brain cells is capable of repair with red light.

Treat Wrinkles

Wrinkles are the skin's way of showing that it isn't getting what it needs to repair everyday damage.

Skins cells are subjected to a lot of abuse and show it by producing uneven skin texture, sagginess and wrinkles. In other words, facial skin cells do not seem that capable of repairing themselves without help.

With the assistance of red light therapy, however, skin cells receive the help they need to repair themselves and take on a healthier appearance. Red light can repair both wrinkles and scars and lighten spots of sun damage.

Red light therapy also has the ability to speed the healing of wounds and reduce the appearance of scars.

Treat Chronic Pain

Chronic pain, whether it's from an injury or illness, can take over your life. Red light therapy not only relieves pain but can also start repair. Whether the source of pain is from an old injury or from something like arthritis, red light can help.

First, red light therapy works to reduce inflammation, then it starts the job of encouraging tendons and other connective tissue to repair on their own. Chronic pain caused by repetitive activities like running or playing tennis are the most successfully treated with red light.

Treat Hair Loss

In a study of both men and women with hair loss, several weeks of stimulating hair follicles with red light therapy encouraged new and thicker hair growth. Those in the study who were using a fake device did not get the results that the ones using the real red light therapy did.

This therapy works the best for those who still have hair follicles. Unfortunately, a scalp that is totally bald will not be able to produce more hair. Potential users can compare their degree of hair loss to online chart illustrations to see if light therapy will work for them.

Treat Dementia

In treating dementia, the red light is looked at rather than applied to the skin or scalp. A person seeking improvement in Alzheimer's symptoms would sit or stand in front of red light panels.

The light is delivered to the brain via the eyes. Once there, it has the ability to break up protein deposits in the brain that causes the impairment typically associated with dementia.

Red light therapy improves sleep, repairs connections between nerve cells, reduces inflammation and improves memory. It is believed that the light also increases blood flow to the brain which elevates oxygen levels.

The best part about red light therapy is that it is pain-free and even feels good. There are no dangers to it as long as people follow the recommended exposure times. Using the lights for longer than deemed safe can result in burns, just like exposure to the sun for too long causes sunburn.

In the past, there was more expense involved since each session required a visit to a salon or medical office.  Now that the FDA has approved the use of red light therapy at home, there is only a one-time cost associated with the purchase of a home wand, helmet, panel or mask.
