4 Ways To Spruce Up Your Curb Appeal This Spring

The birds are chirping, and the sun is out. Temperatures are rising, and you are looking to finally get some work done outside. Do you start in the front or the back of the house? Maybe you’re looking to sell your property this summer and need to spruce things up a bit. Having a property with great curb appeal will not only bring you greater satisfaction when pulling into your driveway every day but if you are looking to sell, it will also draw more interest and dollars. Sprucing up the looks of your home doesn’t have to break the bank either. Here’s a list of projects that will add to your home's attractive look without setting you back too much dough.

1. A Paint Makeover

How long has it been since your house got a fresh coat of paint? Maybe the other houses on your block have recently refreshed their homes’ exteriors leaving yours looking a little tired. Spring is an excellent time to consider a new color for your home. If you time it right and the weather cooperates, the average home can be self-painted in one weekend. This would save a ton of money but is, admitted, a big job. Don’t forget to do some prep work on your siding before starting, and be sure to tape off your windows to prevent paint splatter. Paint rollers are the cheaper option when considering how to apply the paint, but you can rent or buy an inexpensive paint sprayer that makes the job much quicker and easier. Don’t forget to check with your homeowner’s association to see if there are any restrictions on colors but try to find a balance between uniqueness and blending in with your neighbors when choosing your house’s new look.

2. A Luscious Lawn

Everybody loves soft green grass, and a nice lawn contributes a lot to curb appeal. Regularly watering and seeding help to keep a lawn full and healthy. Overseeding should be done in the fall, and an installed sprinkler system takes the hassle out of daily watering. Periodic lawn aeration and thatching are also highly recommended to keep your grass nice and fluffy. Be careful not to mow it too short. More frequent, higher trimming prevents your grass from burning in the upcoming summer sun. Finally, for a manicured look, use an edger, either manual or powered, to curate the edges of your lawn.

3. Window and Garage Treatments

That new color on the house won’t go far if you don’t accent it with a window and garage door upgrade. You can refresh windows with a simple accent color on the trim, but you can take it a step further by adding inexpensive decorative shutters to your street-facing windows. These long-lasting shutters come in many different colors and materials to suit your budget and style. Likewise, you can easily repaint garage doors, wood, and metal to set off your home’s color scheme. Accent hardware is also available for garage doors to make an easy, inexpensive, and instant upgrade without buying new doors.

4. A New Mailbox with Planter

Are you still using that old, beat-up metal mailbox? Everybody who drives past your house sees it, and it's a super easy and inexpensive upgrade. Styles and materials of mailboxes are endless, from your standard, old-time metal box, to resilient plastic units. Tired of walking into the street to check your mail? Get a unit with a door on the front and back to make it more convenient and safe to get your mail. You could go all out and build a brick structure to house your new mailbox. Another way to add pizzazz to your mailbox is to install a decorative planter around the post. The simple addition of a new mailbox instantly adds curb appeal to your home.

First impressions have a huge impact on the value of your home. The best way to create a great first impression is to increase the curb appeal of your home. It’s amazing how a few quick and inexpensive projects can add enjoyment and value to your house almost instantly.
