7 Ways Artists Can Get Into a Creative Mindspace

Creative people are often misconstrued as flighty or flakey. Artists, writers, singers, songwriters and the like all must work hard to create, just like any other profession or pursuit. One of the differences between creatives and others is the mood or headspace they must enter to work. Artistic endeavors are often hatched in the head but carried out with the heart. However, there are times when creative energy does not flow. When this happens, creatives may turn to these seven ways to break through and unleash their creative powers.

Stay Hydrated and Fed

Energy can deplete fairly quickly when frustrated or stressed. When in a creative slump, try drinking a cold glass of water and eat a healthy dish. Proper vitamins are crucial in maintaining physical and mental health. When the body suffers from a deficiency, so does the mind. Take a look at thrive reviews to find a supplement that can help keep your body healthy and drink plenty of water.

Withdraw From the Noise

The stress of the world at large is loud. There does not seem to be any kind of escape from negative news, views and voices. When the external noise overwhelms the creative brain, retreat to the quiet. This will differ for everyone, but most can find a place in their home to be still. Meditation and yoga are excellent practices for artists. They maintain a brain-body connection through concentration and focus on the breath. When the mind can sit still with itself, creative breakthroughs often occur.

Change Artist Expression

When an artist cannot get into the proper headspace to create, switching gears may be the answer. Crossing mediums is something artists often do, such as using charcoal to sketch instead of watercolors to paint. However, crossing artist genres also helps. Writers often take up sketching or playing instruments. Artists often turn to journaling to aid in the creative process. Some diversification can inspire the brain to create.

Take a Walk

Getting some fresh air can clear the head. Inspiration comes in many forms, and finding someplace particularly beautiful or new to walk may work wonders for helping artists find creative mojo. Weather a problem? No worries. Take in an art exhibit at the local museum or explore an ornate hotel lobby. Art and inspiration are all around, and getting out to find it can strike the spark in every artist.

Reach Out to Like-Minded Creatives

Creative minds are drawn to each other. It is difficult to convey an inability to draw or paint with someone who has never faced the plight. Find a group of like-minded artists and keep the channels of communication open. Perhaps one has a story to share that will jumpstart another's brain. Sometimes, just listening to what other creatives are working on can inspire the brain.

Learn When To Unplug

One of the biggest roadblocks to tapping into creativity is the digital world. Think about how easy it is to tap an icon and spend minutes and hours scrolling through posts, clicking links and reading irrelevant articles. Technology has done so much to improve daily life, but it also has a dark side. It is easy to put off tasks and get lost in cyberspace. To remain planted in the real world and get into a creative headspace, unplug as necessary.

Listen To the Inner Voice

Everyone has an inner voice. It is known as the conscious, the inspiration or the gut. It is responsible for praising small victories and lauding failures. When trying to get into the mindset required to create, listen to what that inner voice is saying. Let it guide you part way, especially if it is particularly positive. Obviously, when it tries to knock you down, you have the ability to shush it by simply doing the thing it says you cannot.

The energy required to create art is not always pleasant, and artists must get into the proper mode before beginning. When the mind does not cooperate, flip the switch and use one of these methods to help get into the mind space needed to create.
