How To Blast Out of A Creative Funk

When the thoughts and ideas are flowing, being creative can feel great. However, if you ever find your mind going blank when you're looking for some inspiration, your creative endeavors could begin to feel more stressful than fun. While experiencing writer's block or any other kind of creative block may be frustrating, the reality is that there are things you can do to get yourself out of your funk and start creating again.

Give Your Brain a Boost

Sometimes your lack of inspiration may not be a mental block, but rather a tired brain. If you don't get enough sleep or don't get enough nutrients, it could take a toll on your cognitive function, and as a result your creativity, too. To get past this, taking steps to improve your overall health should be your first move.

You can do this by getting better sleep, as well as taking steps to make sure you're getting more nutrients out of your diet by eating more fruits and vegetables or trying a supplement. Before committing to a supplement, though, it can be a good idea to read about things like Thrive Side Effects to make sure that you're getting the right supplement for you.

Focus On Something Else

Sometimes the best solution is simply to take a break and focus on something else for a little while. When you focus on an issue for too long, it can be easy to stress yourself out and lose your perspective on the project overall. By taking some time away, whether it's a couple of hours or a couple of days, you can come back to the issue with fresh eyes and maybe some fresh ideas, too.

Get Moving

In some situations, when your mind is stagnating, getting your body moving may get your mind moving again, too. Whether you go for a long walk or lift some weights, getting your blood pumping can boost your mood, and your brain power, too. It can also help your brain generate chemicals and hormones that can help ease things like depression and anxiety, which can have a negative impact on your ability to be creative.

Try Mindfulness

Taking some time out to relax and clear your mind can be another beneficial strategy for reducing stress and helping the thoughts to flow, too. By starting a regular mindfulness, or meditation practice you can not only help relax your nervous system and reduce stress but also improve your cognitive function and your mind's response to stress, as well. This means that you can not only feel more relaxed in general, but that you can also loosen up and open your mind in a way that can help you to be more creative, and make it easier for you to get around mental blocks to your creativity.

Lower Your Standards

While this may sound odd to some, lowering your standards is the key to being more free creatively. For those that are creative, it can be easy to get frustrated when what you are coming up with isn't good enough or doesn't meet your standards. While it can be good to strive to do your best, sometimes being too hard on yourself can make it difficult for you to think freely, and could even stunt your creativity in the long run. By learning to go easy on yourself and accepting the ideas as they come to you, even if they don't seem good enough at the moment, you can help yourself get over mental blocks more quickly and allow your ideas to flow more freely.

Some Last Thoughts

Pursuing a creative endeavor can be a lot of fun, no matter what it is. However, when you find yourself getting stuck in a creative rut, it can feel frustrating rather than fun. The good news is that there can be many simple ways to get around this, from giving your health and your brain a boost, to learning to be more accepting of your ideas as they come.
