How to Make Your Bathroom Fun and Functional

Bathrooms provide a variety of purposes. Of course, the toilet's function is pretty obvious, but you also use it to shower, bathe and probably get ready for the day. These are all pretty important aspects to your day, so you want a bathroom that is functional, as well as a room you enjoy being in. There are many things you can do to improve the function of your bathroom, making it a more pleasant room for all purposes.

Storage

Storage in a bathroom is important. It's a great place to keep your medications, towels, hair products, makeup and more. These things can look cluttered when you don't have enough storage. Many bathrooms don't come with much storage other than the cabinet under the sink. With the pipes, there is less space available than you might think. Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to add storage to your bathroom. Whether you choose extra shelving or baskets, this will give you more places to put all of the things you would want to keep in your bathroom.

Consider Privacy

If you only have one bathroom, there may be times when more than one person needs to use the bathroom at the same time. For example, one person might need to shower while another person is putting makeup on. Privacy can be useful for situations like this. If you have a glass shower door or a window, then etched glass can help give you the privacy you desire while adding to the aesthetics of the bathroom.

Choose a Wall Color

When redecorating your bathroom, you may decide to choose a new color to add a little personality to the room. Some experts recommend sticking with neutral colors and letting the accessories be the pop of color in the room. However, this does not mean that you have to choose a boring color. A taupe or grey can completely change the look of a room. If you want more color on the walls, then consider sticking with a cooler color, such as green or blue. This matches up well with the function of the bathroom.

Consider Simplicity

You may find that as you are shopping for your new bathroom, you find many different signs, trinkets and accessories that you think would look cute in your bathroom. However, you want to remember that less is more. Too much decoration in your bathroom can make it appear cluttered and messy, and it can also make the bathroom less functional. Imagine how irritating it would be curling your hair and constantly having to untangle the cord from all of the items on the countertop. Pick a few accessories that you really like, and leave the rest alone. If you can't narrow it down, then consider only having a couple items on display at a time, and rotating them out every couple of months.

Find the Right Lighting

The bathroom needs to have a lot of light, so that you can see what you are doing when you are getting ready. Too much light can feel harsh, so it's important to find a balance. The kind of light bulbs you choose will make a difference in this. Stark white light bulbs can be great for when you are looking to light a closet or garage, but in the home, you may want a softer light. This is especially true when you use multiple light bulbs in one space, like you do in a bathroom.

These are all some things to consider when trying to make your bathroom a fun, functional space. Having the proper storage will help keep you organized, and the right type of glass can provide privacy for people who need it. The wall color can really determine the feel of a room, so consider a color that is calm and inviting. The fewer knickknacks you have in your bathroom, the less cluttered it will look, and the right lighting will make a bathroom feel welcoming and pleasing.
