Messy Foods We Love to Eat

Why do we love messy foods? Do they remind us of our carefree days of childhood? Do foods that stain our teeth and carpet and fingers and clothes taste better than foods that come in small dainty portions? Who’s to say? One thing we can agree on is that messy foods are often worth the stains!

Messy Foods That Stain Teeth

Dark juicy fruits that burst with flavor and drip down your chin are a sweet reminder of summertime. Blackberries picked fresh are a delectable treat. You can pop blueberries into your mouth like candy but without the guilt. As delicious as these sweet fruits are, they leave behind a mark on your teeth and on your lips. The dark pigments in the berry sit in your mouth until you brush your teeth or use other products especially made to whiten your teeth back to their original pearly hue.

Irresistible chocolate can also do a number on your teeth. You may think that no one will ever know if you stop off at the convenience store for a quick snack, but chocolate always betrays you. Not only do tiny crumbs fall and melt in your lap, but larger chunks often get stuck between your teeth creating a less than dazzling smile which is an instant giveaway to the last thing you put in your mouth.

Messy Foods That Stain Carpet

If you have ever knocked over a glass of red wine onto your host’s white carpet, then you know what embarrassment is. Payback often comes in the form of your own children who “can do it myself” upending a full plate of spaghetti onto the floor. Boy do red liquids and sauces stain! Their secret ingredient might be deliciousness. Never fear, a quick internet search of carpet cleaning near me can set things right again. Your friendship will be saved, and your little tyrant will learn the value of using two hands.

Messy Foods That Stain Fingers

It’s hard to say, “It wasn’t me!” if your fingers are orange or sticky. Anything that contains dry cheese powder is going to stick, making these foods literally finger-licking good. A sensible hand-washing won’t clean you up either. That powder is going to be under your fingernails for hours; however, cheesy snacks are often worth the extra time at the sink.

Wings are another delightful finger food that keeps on giving long after the little bones have been properly disposed of. The teriyaki or buffalo sauce scent stays with you along with the discoloration of your fingernails to remind you of the best meal you’ve had all week. Eating with your hands may seem a little childish but eating what you love with no regrets is the best part of childhood to bring into your adult world.

Messy Foods That Stain Clothes

There is a reason patrons of barbecue joints are often given bibs before they eat. Barbecue, if done right, should drip down your fingers and onto whatever is underneath it – most likely your shirt or pants. Keeping this awesome food only in your mouth is a challenge, but one well worth taking. You have some choices when you’re craving that smoky, tangy, sweet, spicy meat. Whether you go for Texas-style brisket where the sauce is applied with a Texas-sized mop or tangy mustard based pulled pork from South Carolina, you’re sure to drip something on your clothes.  The best solution? Just wear an old t-shirt and chow down!

If you plan to eat messy, you make a commitment to the inevitable stains and spills that come from the best foods. Deciding that you’re all in, come what may, will lessen the pain of blemishes that are sure to pop up on your teeth, rug, sofa, t-shirt, and fingers. Consider these little imperfections signs of a life well lived and a meal most enjoyed!
