9 Ways to Harness Your Christmas Creativity

It’s never too soon to start preparing for Christmas. Though the red and green ornaments, string lights, and festive wreaths are all holiday staples, it’s time to get a little more innovative. Thinking outside of the box for this year’s festivities will help you truly tap into your Christmas cheer.

Getting Creative This Christmas

Even if you have a few traditions you like to follow each year, the holidays should be a time filled with new ideas. Use the following decor suggestions to help kickstart your Christmas creativity:

1. Countdown with a Lightbox

If you’re the kind of person to get your Christmas tree well in advance, take advantage of that by having a countdown to the big day. Get a lightbox to put under your tree to keep track of every passing day. Kids will really enjoy changing the number of days as Christmas quickly approaches.

2. Line the Walls with Your Favorite Songs

We all love Christmas carols, but for the most part, they don’t receive much attention outside of radio play. Make your favorite Christmas lyrics part of your holiday decor by decorating your home with them. With alphabet stickers, balloons, or any other hangable letters, you can start ringing in the holidays with your favorite songs.

3. Create a Starry Night

Who says your stars have to stay on top of the tree? String multidimensional decorative stars along the walls, from the ceiling, or across a shelf. This decoration idea will really help to make the magic come alive. To make your decor pop, try to find stars that are a mix of wood, metal, or paper in various colors and tones.

4. Go Big

If you have the space for large-scale decorations, go for it. Go all out and don’t hold back this season with a 12 foot artificial Christmas trees. In addition to these trees making a huge statement, you’ll be able to gather the whole family together to decorate them. This is an especially good idea if you plan to have a large family gathering for the holidays.

5. Winterize the Porch

Nothing says “it’s Christmas time” like a front porch that is fully decked out. Winterize your porch by adding fir tree wreaths, bright red poinsettias, cheer-filled mats, and your favorite choice of winter creatures. For the final touch, arrange string lights around your door or walkway to keep the Christmas cheer going into the night.

6. Draw Snowflakes on Mirrors and Windows

If you’re a fan of more understated decorations, this tip is for you. Using a white paint marker (with washable paint), draw snowflakes on your mirrors and windows. Though these designs may be small, they’ll really help your house feel like home this Christmas.

7. Share Holiday Greetings

Don’t let friends’ and family members’ holiday greetings go to waste. Share your holiday cheer by displaying all of your Christmas cards. The best thing about this idea is that the cards themselves are the decorations.

8. Gather the Garlands

Your Christmas tree shouldn’t be the only greenery around. Bring out the garlands to make your home feel like a winter wonderland. Use command hooks to hang these garlands around door frames, the stairway, and even from the ceiling. Feel free to mix things up by adding in some snow-covered greenery to complete the winter look.

9. Bring out the Ribbons

While ribbons are often appreciated on Christmas presents, they also are a beautiful choice for decorations. Choose your favorite festive colors and hang your bows around the home. Whether you tie them around the stairs, place them on your furniture, or use them on yourself, ribbons are the perfect way to tie the holiday together.

The Christmas season is the perfect time to get creative with your decoration skills. Keep these nine ideas in mind as you start preparing for this coming holiday season.
