Hi, wanted to share my first demo at Michael's in Orange City, Florida.  This was a quick acrylic sketch on 11x14 canvas that took me about 3 hours.  For instructional purposes, beginning students would do a simpler version of this image, just a lovely cascade falling into a pool without so many rocks, but with a reflection that will make it look real.  Waterfalls are easy for beginners with proper instruction, and give novice painters a sense of accomplishment and the desire to continue with classes!  Grumbacher colors used are: cad yellow medium, white, ultramarine blue, burnt umber, and paynes gray.  This was done with the 2 brushes from the instructor kit, a #2 bristlette round, and a #8 bristlette filbert.  The trick here was to work on the Artist's Loft black canvases from Michael's, beginning with a simple layout in chalk.  Students gain confidence from the quick layout and like the fact that the chalk is instantly erased by a wet brush or paper towel.  I've taught this technique to children, teens, and adults for 30 years!

That seems like an excellent teaching strategy
