BTJA PARTNERS WITH THALO FOR NEW INSPIRATION AWARD
FOR 2ND ANNUAL CRITICS’ CHOICE TELEVISION AWARDS GALA
FIRST RECIPIENT WILL BE SMASH, A 2011 CRITICS’ CHOICE MOST EXCITING NEW SERIES HONOREE

LOS ANGELES (June 15, 2012) – The Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA) today announced that it is partnering with thalo Magazine (www.thalo.com) to create the thalo’s Critics’ Choice Inspiration Award. Established to honor a television show for illuminating the fine arts in its subject matter and production methods, along with the individuals who infuse those productions with their artistic passions, the inaugural thalo’s Critics’ Choice Inspiration Award will go to Smash, a 2011 Critics’ Choice Most Exciting New Series honoree. The thalo’s Critics' Choice Inspiration Award will be presented to Smash at the 2nd annual Critics’ Choice Television Awards on the evening of Monday, June 18th, at a gala awards dinner at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The thalo’s Critics’ Choice Inspiration Award also includes a $5,000 donation made by thalo’s to the “NBC’s ‘Smash’: Make a Musical” program administered by the iTheatrics’ Junior Theater Project. “NBC’s ‘Smash’: Make a Musical” teaches children everywhere about the joys of musical theater by offering educators and students the training and resources to build self-sustaining musical theater programs in public schools across the country. Based on a curriculum developed and tested by iTheatrics, the “NBC’s ‘Smash’: Make a Musical” model has successfully launched over 75 new musical theater mentorship programs. iTheatrics’ Junior Theater Project is currently offering schools an opportunity to launch “NBC’s ‘Smash’: Make a Musical” programs in their school in fall, 2012.

“Our partnership with thalo not only pays tribute to a celebration of fine arts on television with Smash as our inaugural recipient, but as an inspiration to the next generation,” said Joey Berlin BTJA president. “After all, our schools hold the key to the future of the arts.”

“We are very pleased to be joining forces with the Broadcast Television Journalists Association, NBC, Smash and iTheatrics’ Junior Theater Project to help keep the arts funded in our schools,” said Steven W. Roth, Executive Publisher of thalo. “We are thrilled to be able to help keep the dream alive and help spark creativity in educational institutions. It is essential that we nurture and inspire young artists by giving them an opportunity to be involved with quality art programs.”

thalo is a creative social network and inspirational resource dedicated to inspiring the art community from theater to broadcast, fine art to fashion, animation to graphic design and everything in between. thalo offers creative people a collaborative, interactive voice to ignite, motivate and inspire the creative process. thalo’s purpose is to recognize the talents of creative people who inspire others through their art, in order to keep the creative community motivated to stay inspired®. Smash has incorporated this philosophy into its own fabric by showing viewers, and the creative community, how tenacity, talent and inspiration are key elements needed to succeed and follow a dream.
