New York's Metropolitan Studies the Influence of Punk on Fashion

Punk's rebellious spirit, which in New York manifested itself in the form of the CBGB rock bar, has found a new home, about eighty blocks further north in the city's own Metropolitan Museum. An exhibition titled "PUNK: Chaos to Couture", which has recreated the CBGB's decadent restrooms down to the graffiti and cigarette butts, includes a collection of over 100 different outfits and a room dedicated to elements of punk rock fashion that later appeared in the world of designer clothing. The exhibition also explores the influence of punk's destructive spirit with shredded pieces of clothing which were taken up by brands such as Chanel.
