Fall 2021 Fashion Trends

If you’re looking to spend some time out and about this fall, you might be wondering what the latest fashion trends are. Stemming from over a year of closures and canceled plans, fall fashion still comes from a laid back place and is inspired by comfort. It’s also still all about the ‘90s, so be ready for bare midriffs, grunge and butterfly clips.

It’s 1993 All Over Again

Whether their rediscovering skorts or re-embracing the zigzag part, Gen Z is all about reliving the ‘90s. Layered t-shirts, skater jeans and sheath dresses are all in this fall. From skinny to boyfriend, and now to skater, pant legs just keep getting wider.

‘90s trends also include cropped cardigans, which can even be fuzzy. That’s right— anything you bought to look like Cher in Clueless can be pulled from the back of your closet and worn to fit in. Pair it with a tattoo choker and scrunchie to really bring back the vibes.

Bear That Midriff

An unusual trend for fall, but one that makes sense for the ‘90s, is the bare midriff. Belly-baring tops have been trendy for some time, but there’s a difference this fall. Matching midriff bearing sets have arrived. No matter how much belly you choose to show, look for coordinating pieces to achieve this look.

This Also Means Grunge

Grunge is back too! Part of the reason is confort. Worn and ripped jeans and plaid shirts are easy to move around in. Women's woolen hats can be paired with your grungiest outfit to get the full look.

Bowling shirts, all black and oversized clothes are options here too. This go-around, you should add a little updated flair though. For instance, add some sparkle to your all black or tailor your bowling shirt for a better fit.

Fall Colors Aren’t Grungy Though

The look might be grunge this fall, but the color is not. Bright, saturated hues will be all the rage come autumn. This is an unusual trend for the latter months of the year, where muted and dark tones usually win big.

It makes sense, all things considered though. 2021 wasn’t the post-pandemic year expected. It just hasn’t been the bright, shining positivity hoped for. So, fall brings bright, saturated tones to see the world into a better 2022.

Look for jewel tones and lavender to both play an important role  as well. Colors like goldenrod, magenta and emerald will be on top. Pair contrasting colors for the full effect.

There’s an Exception to Every Rule

Though not a jewel tone, lavender does win big this autumn. Though some hues are rich and saturated, any shade of the pale purple is in this fall. Lavender works great for statement pieces, like a bright blazer. You can also wear monochromatic lavender, especially if you choose different shades of the vibrant color.

Add a Little Sparkle

Aside from jewel tones, another spot of bright and shiny this fall comes in the forms of sparkle and sequins. Whether you’re headed out for the night or just trying to brighten up a gloomy autumn day, sparkles are the answer. This trend includes shiny metallics as well.

The best part of this trend? It can be worn anywhere. This trend is a revenge trend. Your sequins have been shoved in the closet for over a year. Now it’s time to take them out for a coffee date, a trip to the bookstore or a walk in the park. Pair your sequins with t-shirt or sneakers to achieve the causal effect.

It’s All About Texture

In addition to color, texture is important this fall. Be on the lookout for handbags that could pass for puffer coats. Patterned stitching and woven leather make this look complete. All sizes are options with this trend, whether it’s a clutch or large laptop bag. A textured bag is perfect for a party or a trip to the local library.

With so many bright, sparkly, ‘90s-inspired options, there’s a fun trend for you to try this fall.
