Create a Home That Reflects Your Personality

For some, home is just a place to sleep and store belongings. For others, home is a place that reflects their personality and taste. With a little thought and effort there can be a pleasing scene in any direction. Strive for a space that is a reflection of you.

Beauty

There is no rule that a home needs to be utilitarian. Every aspect of a home can be special, beautiful and make a statement about who you are.

One way to do this is to look closely at everything in your home and ask yourself how it makes you feel. When you live in a place, you can become accustomed to every area of it. However, you should try to look at your surroundings with fresh eyes and pay attention to how pleasing it is to you.

Think about where you store your wine and if it accurately reflects how you feel about it. If it is literally in the basement in a dusty corner, this might not reflect how you feel about your wines and wine cellar.

Wine usually means a celebration, especially if it's a rare vintage. With assembled family and friends, think about how much nicer it would be to retrieve the wine of the night from behind wine cellar glass doors.

Art

Photographs and art bring interest, color and beauty to an otherwise blank wall. Your specially chosen art is meaningful and forever beautiful for you to look at. A photo wall is also a great way to showcase your ever-changing family and the great times all of you have had.

Hanging art used to be an ordeal. In fact, some homeowners actually hired professional to come and hang their art in a beautiful way.

An old-fashioned way of hanging art and other wall decorations has returned. Some hesitate to hang art because they just aren't handy. Others won't do it because hanging individual pieces of art could potentially inflict many nail holes in the walls.

The correct way to organize your art is to hire a professional to come and install picture molding. This is a strip of wood that goes around the room at the same height. There is a groove in it to securely accommodate a picture hanger.

All you need to do is to buy the strongest fishing line. It is pretty much invisible so it won't detract from your art. The hanger fits into the groove and supports the fishing line. Your art can easily be moved around with no damage to walls  This kind of preparation encourages homeowners to collect and hang their masterpieces.

Color

Color is very personal and should be expressed in the home. Most apartments and homes on the market have neutral walls. There is even a name for this shade: "landlord cream", which is a shade between yellow and brown and is designed to never offend anyone.

Unfortunatley, you would have to be extremely boring to keep the walls "landlord cream" when that non-color doesn't reflect your personality at all.

Many feel that they need to keep the colors in their dwelling neutral for the possibility of selling it one day in the future. Actually, that only means you're trying to please some future owner of your home but not yourself.

For the amount of time you occupy a home, you should decorate with the colors you love, not try to keep it neutral and sterile. The price you paid for the home entitles you to surround yourself with the colors you love.

If you do put your home on the market one day, the real estate agent can provide guidance. If any prospective buyers express dismay at your color choices, you can hire a team to quickly change them.

Take a good look at your home today, whether it's a tiny apartment or large house. If it doesn't make you happy or express your personality, think of some ways you can fix that.
