6 Tips to Make Staging Your Home a Breeze

Selling your house is a big decision, but once you decide to move, you need to get your home ready to sell. If you’ve never done it before, the thought of staging your house can feel overwhelming. After all, you’ve lived in your property for so long, it’s hard to imagine what others might want to see. Staging your house doesn’t have to be a challenge. You just need to know where to start. Here are a few key things to help you get your house showroom ready in no time flat.

Give the Outside Some TLC

Your home’s exterior is your best chance at making a positive first impression with buyers. Use this to your advantage and give your landscaping a little refresh. Trim away excess growth on shrubs and trees. Pull weeds in your garden beds and dispose of dead plant matter in the trash. If you have toys or yard furniture outside, pick them up and organize the space so it won’t look cluttered to prospective buyers. Get in the habit of mowing your lawn at least once a week so the grass will look tidy and pristine for any showings you might have.

Clear Your Countertops and Tables

Inside, you want your house to look clean and uncluttered. The best way to do that is to clear your countertops and tables throughout your home. You don’t have to leave them completely barren, but you should get rid of any unnecessary clutter that’s taking up space. Once you’ve cleared them off, wipe them down with a damp rag or sponge to get rid of any dirt that could leave your house looking unkempt. If you have polished wood tables and surfaces, you may want to oil and polish the wood to help it look like new. Even better, it will help repel dust and makes your regular cleaning tasks easier to manage.

Wash Your Windows

Buyers love touring homes that feel open and bright. This means you’ll want to wash both the inside and outside of your windows. Use a dedicated glass cleaner to give your glass a streak-free shine. To clean the glass on the outside of your home, you may want to hire a professional window cleaner. They’ll be able to give your windows the attention they deserve so you won’t have to worry about climbing ladders and working at height.

Get Your Carpets Professionally Cleaned

Your flooring can make or break your buyers’ impression of your home. When it looks clean, it can inspire confidence that you cared for and properly maintained the rest of your home. When it’s dirty and damaged, it can make the rest of your house look dirtier and less maintained. Unfortunately, the cleaning equipment you can rent at local hardware stores isn’t always up to the task. Instead, hire  a commercial carpet cleaning expert and let them breathe new life into your carpets.

Sell Unused and Unwanted Items

When you move, you’ll need to pay movers to transport your belongings to your new home. The more stuff you have to move, the more it will cost. Save yourself the money and the hassle by getting rid of those unused and unwanted items taking up space around your home. Host a garage sale before you start showing your home and sell the things you can. You can always donate anything that doesn’t sell to local charities or offer it to friends and family for free.

Replace Old Light Bulbs

Nothing is more frustrating than watching a light bulb flicker or flipping the switch only to see that half your bulbs are dead. Buyers will feel the same frustration when they turn on the lights at your house. Before your first showing, replace any old or dead light bulbs in your light fixtures. This way, the space will stay bright and buyers will be able to see that your light fixtures work properly.

Follow these tips and you’ll be able to have your house show-ready quickly so you can sit back and enjoy your showings.
