Star Wars: Episode VII Spoilers, And Why I Think They're False

By Danny F. Santos (doddleNEWS)

Massive possible spoilers below, you’ve been warned!

Star Wars: Episode VII is about to go back into production after a short hiatus, due to Harrison Ford’s injury on set. Then, all of a sudden, we get a bucket load of spy reports that seem to have spewed out onto the internet all at once. Concept art, images of props and some new plot details.

None of these rumors have been confirmed yet and, in fact, Billy Donnelly over at This Is Infamous has his own sources who’ve debunked most of the plot rumors. The stormtrooper helmets are apparently 100% legitimate and the concept drawings of Harrison Ford while legitimate may not represent the final versions of his costume. Let’s go over everything one at a time.

Stormtrooper Helmets

After 30 years the stormtrooper armor would change a bit and Indie Revolver and the RPF both have images of the helmets. These look like the classic stormtrooper design but brought up to date. I’m really digging them, especially the Ralph McQuarrie inspired snowtrooper. Check the links above for images!

Han Solo’s Threads

Some concept drawings of Han Solo have also leaked out onto the net again through Indie Revolver (they seem plugged in to whoever is leaking stuff). These show Han wearing a costume that would be at home in Firefly (I wonder if it’s a nod to Joss Whedon?) and another one that looks like it has his general insignia from Empire Strikes Back and looks well suited for the snow. That would tie in well with the snowtroopers. Check those out here!

Han Solo’s Ride

Here’s where we get into possible fake rumors. First up, Badass Digest says that Han traded in the Millennium Falcon for something a bit more substantial. Han is no longer piloting his legendary freighter but rather a Super Star Destroyer! Why he and Chewbacca would be in charge of one, I have no idea.

Luke Skywalker’s Whereabouts

This rumor has been around for a while, after the title scroll the first thing we see is Luke Skywalker’s severed hand holding a lightsaber floating through space where it eventually crashes onto the surface of a planet. Daisy Ridley and John Boyega’s characters find it and eventually hook up with Han and Chewy to go looking for Skywalker who’s been missing since the end of Return of the Jedi. Except he’s not missing, he was captured shortly after the battle of Endor by…

The Villains

…The Inquisitors! The upcoming Star Wars Rebels TV series features a villain named the Inquisitor who hunts Jedi that escaped the purge. Latino Review reports that the main villain is one of these Inquisitors and he will be part machine and part living creature– they even have what appears to be a piece of art showing the villain. This Is Infamous rejects that saying Adam Driver is the main villain and he is not a cyborg or Inquisitor nor are there any Inquisitors in the film at all.

Fact from Fiction

The only thing most rumors agree on is the floating lightsaber in space that eventually ends up in Ridley and Boyega’s characters’ hands. Apparently it’s the lightsaber Luke lost at the end of Empire Strikes Back in cloud city and Boyega was a stormtrooper up until the defeat of the Empire. Also that Darth Vader plays some part in the film either via flash backs or visions.

Personally, I don’t think I buy any of these plot rumors– at least not yet. I think they’re all fake and Boyega as a stormtrooper up until the defeat of the Empire? He’s 22 years old so unless the Empire was just defeated a few years before the beginning of Episode VII or his character hasn’t aged since Return of the Jedi. The same This Is Infamous article that reports Boyega is a stormtrooper also says the remnants of the Empire are more like what Neo-Nazis are to Nazis so it would seem that the Empire has been gone for a while at least.

Also, how does a lightsaber from a cloud planet end up in space? Maybe it gets picked up or makes it’s way onto a transport or something but that detail makes me suspicious as well. And Luke Skywalker being imprisoned for THIRTY YEARS seems dubious as well.

One final thing, most of these rumors could be real or false but the one thing they never touch is who Daisy Ridley’s character is. If she’s not Han and Leia’s child then she will be Luke’s long lost daughter– so far the Star Wars saga has been about the Skywalkers and I doubt that will change moving forward. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Star Wars Episode VII premieres December 18, 2015.
