New Preview - Sharknado 2: The Second One

By Mark Hodge (doddleNEWS)

While Sharknado made a big splash on social media when it debuted last year, it’s still one of those curiosities which most people know about but have never actually seen.

With that in mind, the SyFy channel has ramped up the promotion of the sequel, Sharknado 2: The Second One, and have released a 3-minute preview following the first trailer crash landing online last month, along with a behind-the-scenes look at the bottom of the article.

The scene takes place on a fast-moving New York subway train and gives Sharknado virgins a taste of the utter ridiculousness which awaits them.

Featuring Ian Ziering, who reprises his role from the first film alongside actress Tara Reid and Sugar Ray’s singer Mark McGrath, the clip shows a subway tunnel being flooded and a slew of man eating sharks heading towards the speeding train.

Of course the actors play it completely straight, delivering lines with the sincerity and charisma of a daytime soap opera.

The preview ends with star Ziering battling what can only be described as a ‘beached’ shark, which has been created using the worst CG I have ever seen, and is flapping and snapping at the baseball bat-wielding actor.

For any readers who live in land-locked countries, fighting a shark on land is a bit like being attacked by a belligerent paraplegic – but in world of Sharknado, that doesn’t matter.

The SyFy channel is hoping this one mildly amusing novelty will sustain an annual television franchise. Of course, following the first movie’s average ratings (but high Twitter trendings), the sequel’s success will make or break future follow-ups.

Sharknado 2: The Second One will air on 31st July. Here’s the behind-the-scenes look:
