Trailer: Birdman Starring Michael Keaton

By Mark Hodge (doddleNEWS)

One of the most interesting movies of this year is Birdman, directed by Alejandro Gonzlez Iñárritu and starring Michael Keaton.

What makes this film so intriguing is that an award-winning director, who is associated with hard hitting art house style dramas – Amores Perros, 21 Grams, and Babel – is now apparently delving into unconventional comedies.

Check the trailer out:

As you can glean from the preview, Keaton is aptly cast as an actor who used play a superhero and is now struggling with his career.

The rest of the cast is equally impressive, including Emma Stone, Zach Galifianakis, Naomi Watts, and Edward Norton

The bat-shaped elephant in the room is of course Keaton himself, who played Bruce Wayne in Tim Burton’s two Batman movies (1989, 1992), and has since seen his big-time career slowly wind down.

However Keaton was always a character actor, who was reluctantly thrown into leading man roles. The actor is a maverick, who first came to prominence as a comic talent, and it’s great to see him in an innovative and exciting role again.

Here is a synopsis:

BIRDMAN or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance is a black comedy that tells the story of an actor (Michael Keaton) -- famous for portraying an iconic superhero -- as he struggles to mount a Broadway play. In the days leading up to opening night, he battles his ego and attempts to recover his family, his career, and himself.
