There are a host of extension pods out there for the taking of selfies… my personal fave for a few years has been the QuikPod. But for action geeks, there really hasn’t been a durable, extension rod for using the GoPro to grab that selfie-like perspective of the action, that won’t bite the dust when… well the subject does. GoPro has had mounts that go on the wrist, the chest, and stickies that can put the camera on a helmet or surf board. They’ve even created a mount to put it on the end of a ski pole. But they’re all rather limiting if you want shoot various angles from the same camera. Now GoPro has announced the 3-way… a handheld mono extender that gives shooters a variety of options.
This ultra-versatile mount can be used three main ways: as a camera grip, extension arm or tripod. The folding arm is perfect for POV or follow-cam footage, and makes it easy to capture selfies without the mount appearing in the shot. – GoPro.com
Just looking at GoPro‘s 3-way, you can see the practical allure. The 3-way expands to 20 inches or collapses down to 7.5 inches. Users can also remove the handle and use it separately. But what I really like is the adjustable extender arm. The chief beef I have on the QuikPod and other extended arms is that you can see the arm in the photo or video.
But with the 3-way, you can bend it in such a way to minimize it’s footprint in the image. The third way is that it has a basic, small tripod option, that collapses inside the handle. So, if you’re out on the slopes, you won’t have to have a backpack that carries a tripod into it that will likely be bent and smashed should you wipe out doing a trick.
And the 3-Way is made of high impact poly carbonate plastic, so it’s durable, light weight, and allows the user to use both in and out of the water.
Other features include:
Cost of the 3-Way is $69.99. Definitely worth putting in my camera bag!
