Rose Shaw has been practicing art in a variety of media since receiving her BFA in 1977. As a freelance artist she has worked on commissioned projects in the Virgin Islands and throughout Florida. As an award winning art teacher in West Palm Beach, she was named Outstanding Art Educator of the Year by the Florida Art Education Association, for 2008-09. This year she was one of four winners of the 2018 State Teacher/Artist Residency program (STARs), presented by the Hermitage Artist Retreat and the Florida Alliance for Arts Education (FAAE). She received a three-week summer residency, at the Hermitage in Englewood. Her work includes Mixed Media paintings, abstracts, murals, and digital photography. Many have been included in juried exhibitions at Cultural Council of Palm Beach County, Cornell Museum, Palm Beach State College Gallery, and the Lighthouse Art Center, where she won awards for the abstract piece "Two Towers" in the show 'Art of Association', and for an encaustic piece “Purgatory". Her mixed media collages may include text, sheet music, photos, and calligraphy. Recent works include a series of sales tag collages with modern figures, including "Mod Love" (Twiggy). The piece “Shopaholic” was included in the book featuring writing and art of women; “Fundamentally Female” A new abstract floral featuring a full spectrum “Wild Rose” was featured in media for the Center For Creative Education’s opening, and has been made into designer clothing at shopvida.com/collections/roseshaw As a leading Visual Arts Teacher in Palm Beach County she was invited to present Workshops at the Florida Art Education Association State Conferences in Jacksonville, Orlando and Miami, and presented classes on Expressive Drawing at Lighthouse Art Center. She also worked closely with the Kravis Center’s Broadway Reach programs on arts integration pieces relating to performances for the students at U.B. Kinsey El. School of the Arts. She is comfortable working in all media, and invites inquiries.
