Alien: Paradise Lost will Introduce new Travelers; Is One Of Them Named Ripley?

I had my issues with Prometheus, which was frustrating, because it could have been one of the best Alien movies since the original. A clunky, nonsensical screenplay ultimately did the film in, but it was a visual feast with great direction and actors.

Maybe I’m an optimist, but I think that director Ridley Scott can bring the prequel series around with Prometheus 2. First, he changed his mind on titling these films by including Alien in the title of Prometheus 2 giving us Alien: Paradise Lost. Second, screenwriter Damon Lindelof is nowhere near the screenplay.

One thing that hasn’t changed is the concept of adding fresh meat to each chapter. If you’re going to have an Alien film, you’re going to need a crew of people to kill off. Speaking with Gregory Ellwood at Awards Campaign, Scott mentioned that Noomi Rapace‘s Elizabeth Shaw and Michael Fassbender‘s android David won’t be alone.

It’s going to be it’s own separate thing because they are going to the planet of the Engineers and they are going to see what happened there. It was a disaster. And they will be in that alien craft that takes them there, but with a new group that’s incoming, a new group of travelers in the beginning of the first act.

This dovetails into some comments Scott made that there would be some connective tissue to the Xenomorphs and Ellen Ripley in this film. Prometheus takes place almost 30 years before Alien so don’t expect to see a grown up version of the character Sigourney Weaver made popular in this but that doesn’t mean a direct family member won’t be involved.

Scott also confirmed he plans to direct at least one more film saying, “there is an evolution to this one so if we can get something down I don’t not see how we go [forward without a third].” Prometheus was an uneven start so here’s hoping that the prequel-sequels will be much, much better.

Alien: Paradise Lost will go into production in March and premiere in theaters on May 30, 2017.
