Clelebrating Jon Gnagy in Chicago: Exhibit at Firecat Projects

 

Jon Gnagy (1907-1981) was a self-taught American artist who became the world’s first televised art instructor. His shows offered everything from discussion of art history and art instructionals.  His work is widely celebrated, and at Firecat Project in Chicago, his legacy is showcased for all to see.

 

The Exhibition entitled “You Are the Artist” The Artwork of Television’s First Artist debuted on Friday, May 22nd and will be on display through August 14th by both in-person appointment and scheduled virtual tour.


The show contains work from his life and career as an artist and arts educator. Among shown are his professional works that include drawings and paintings from his career. Among a catalog of his life’s work there is a selection of personal sketchbooks, published art instruction books as well a number of personal items on display.

There are also a number of Jon Gnagy’s “How to Draw” drawing kits available for collectors and appreciators of his work.
